Genesis on the back of the Bulletin
Laying a firm foundation in the book of Genesis across the Rural Northwest
Some people are called to be evangelists and Sam Gupton¹ was one of them. He wasn’t very tall, but he wore a 10 Gallon Cowboy hat to make up for it, and his greeting was, “Are you saved?” even if you had known him for years. He was so intense at times, it was annoying! “Of course. I’m saved!” was one of my responses, but he would still ask the same thing the next time he greeted me… This was at the church he helped plant in Salmon Idaho. Generally, most of the congregation would go out to lunch at the Salmon River Café after the service, and Sam would grab the leftover bulletin inserts² and start handing them out to all the waitresses he could. (Sometimes I wanted to duck under the table!) I’m not sure if it was because he was old or his intensity, but they would graciously accept the literature and stuff them in their pockets. A couple years later I became friends with one of those former waitresses who by then had become my co-worker educator at a Christian School. One day we got to talking about Sam and she said that that was her only source of spiritual encouragement because she couldn’t go to church when she was waitressing. At that point I began to get a glimpse of how God was using his ‘old school’ ways³.
Fast forward about 20 years: by default, I am now responsible for the weekly bulletin covers at Alberton Community Church⁴ that he also helped plant. Instead of using the commercial ones, I started writing my own because I am a teacher at heart. Why waste a beautiful opportunity? That was in 2018. I’ve been doing it now for over 5 years, covering all sorts of events and topics including Creation Science.
This year the LORD has laid it on my heart to focus in on Genesis, starting with chapter one, and put them up on the IBA website to be freely used by anyone in our neck of the woods. The goal is to lay a firm foundation in the book of Genesis across the Rural Northwest… and maybe elsewhere too…

Notes to Pastors: Years ago, after I had been studying Creation Science for a while, by the grace of God I was given the opportunity to translate the Hebrew Text for Genesis chapters 1 through 11. The Hebrew Text has a lot more to back up Creation Science Research than what is in the English Texts. As I put together each bulletin, I am including the Hebrew, because when I first went through it, my faith was strengthened to a whole new level!! (And continues to be strengthened even more as I do the research for each new bulletin! God’s word is amazing!!)
